The official nomination period for the 2011 Elections has closed, however, many spots are still open. We
did not receive any nominations for:
- Vice Chair
- Honors & Awards Chair
- Membership Chair
- Public Policy Chair
- At-Large Technical Area Advisor (3)
If you are interested in participating on the council, you are still welcome to self-nominate for any of
these positions. Each position is for a two-year term that will expire in May
2013. As a council member, you're asked to attend monthly council meetings held on the last Tuesday of
each month. You can submit your nomination by email to secretary@aiaa-nwfl.org.

Position Descriptions
Vice Chairperson
The Vice Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall act in the place of the Chairperson in any
case of the Chairperson’s failure or inability to act. He/She shall transact, at the direction of the Chairperson,
any business that could be within the power of the Chairperson to transact.
"The Vice Chair position is typically used as a "training ground" for the Chairperson's
position...The Vice Chair, usually serves as the overall program chair by helping to coordinate the various
programs and trying to maintain a balance. He/she will work with the officers to identify speakers, locations,
menus, promotions, etc." - AIAA Officer Manual
Treasurer
The Treasurer shall be a voting member of the Council and shall have charge of the funds of the Section and shall
prepare all required financial reports and such expenditures as may be authorized by the Section or by the Council
or by the By-Laws of the Institute as implemented under Article VIII of these By-Laws.
"The Treasurer is the keeper of the Section finances...The Treasurer has the
responsibility of administering all Section funds including revenue from programs and events, awards, and Section
rebates." - AIAA Officer Manual
Education/Pre-College Outreach
The Education/Pre-College Outreach Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible
for the planning and implementing of educational programs and activities for the Section. He/she shall be
responsible for the interaction with local schools through the planning and implementing of programs and
activities to promote the science and engineering professions.
"With some concepts and subject matter, teachers are struggling to find teaching
materials and connections that explain as well as stimulate the minds of their students. That's where the
Section outreach fits in." -

Honors and Awards
The Honors & Awards Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for promoting
and recognizing excellence within the Section through local, regional and national recognition.
"The level of your activity will vary. To do an effective job, you should establish a
subcommittee...work closely with the Communications Officer or Newsletter Editor." -

Membership
The Membership Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for the Section
membership promotion and retention programs.
"As the Membership Chairperson, you must be involved with overall Section planning. You
are responsible for integrating membership development and retention programs into all scheduled Section activities.
...it is your responsibility to lead your team in spreading the word about AIAA and inviting nonmembers to join." -

Public Policy
The Public Policy Chairperson shall be a voting member of the Council and shall be responsible for Section
public policy activities, speakers bureaus, interface with public officials, and contact the Institute National
Public Policy Officer.
"Public Policy, simply defined, is policy set by the government in the name of the
public. To AIAA, Public Policy means the Institute's relations with the government, and mainly with the federal
government...if AIAA can influence government decision making by providing information and expertise on aerospace
programs, we can in turn influence the advancement of our profession." -

At-Large Technical Area Advisor (3)
The technical advisors shall be voting members of the Council and shall advise the council within their areas of
expertise/interest. He/She will support various council committees as needed.
